École Broxton Park School will be teaching the Grade 7-9 Health curriculum a little differently this year. Instead of attending weekly Health classes, students will participate in five themed Health Days throughout the year.
These are not optional school days: very relevant curriculum and important life skills will be taught through valuable resources available in our community. All students in Alberta are required to have Health Education, and Broxton has created Health Days to meet this curricular requirement. It is therefore required that all students attend school on Health Days.
2017-2018 Health Days
The topics for Health Days and the resources chosen are taken from the Alberta Education Program of Studies Health curriculum.
- Career Day - Friday, November 17
- Substance Abuse and Addicition - Thursday, January 25
- Sex Education - Friday, February 23
- Mental Health - Friday, April 27
- Fitness and Nutrition - Thursday, May 17
Other schools have reported that Health Days have been an engaging and worthwhile experience for the students who have participated. We would like to see all students take advantage of the learning that occurs.
